Smithson Valley placed 2nd in their division at the AAHSSL meet held at Palo Alto College on January 5th. The Men's 200 Yard Medley Relay 'A' (Donald Ruebenson, Ashton Burge, Josh Tavarez, Grant Griffith) earned first place with a time of 2:02.98, an 8 second time improvement. Other first place finishes include Michelle Lewis for the 100 Yard Freestyle, Donald Ruebenson in the 100 Yard Backstroke, Grant Griffith had first place finishes in both the 200 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Butterfly. Earning second place finishes were Josh Tavarez (200 Yard Individual Medley), Donald Ruebenson (100 Yard Free), and Michelle Lewis (100 Yard Butterfly). Ranger swimmers will compete again at the Alamo City Invitationals on January 20th at Josh Davis Natatorium. District 26-5a Championships are on January 26th and 27th at Josh Davis Natatorium.
SVHS Swimmers finished third at the AAHSSL meet on Friday, Nov 17th, at Palo Alto Natatorium. They scored a combined 167 points behind Saint Michael's Academy and Central Catholic High Schools. First place finishes were logged by Grant Griffith, Donald Ruebenson, and Hannah Weissgarber: 200 Free (Griffith),100 Back (Ruebenson), 500 Free (Ruebenson), 500 Free (Weissgarber). Second Place finishes were turned in by: Men's 200 Medley Relay Team 'A' (Ruebenson, Josh Tavarez, Ashton Burge, Griffith) Men's 200 Free Relay 'A' (Tavarez, Burge, Ruebenson, Griffith) Women's 200 Yard Free (Weissgarber) Men's 100 Back (Tavarez) Third Place finishers were: Women's 200 Yard Medley Relay Team 'A' (Taylor Mooney, Alex Villareal, Michelle Lewis, Weissgarber) Women's 50 Free (Amber Gregory) Women's 100 Free (Lewis) Men's 100 Free (Tavarez). Ranger swimmer times continue to improve with personal best times being achieved by several team members. County Invitationals will take place on December 2nd, and the next AAHSSL meet is on January 5th.
SV Ranger Swimmers placed 1st in their Division at their first meet of the season Nov. 3rd at Palo Alto Natatorium. With a combined team score of 212, they earned the high score over the East Central (178 pts) and Southwest(165 pts) swim teams. Strong performances by Grant Griffith, Sam Laughlin, Josh Tavarez, and both the Men's and Women's Relay 'A' teams moved SV to 1st place in their respective events. First Place finishers were: 200 Medley Women's 'A' team: (Sam Laughlin, Katy Halsey, Michelle Lewis, Hannah Weissgarber). 200 Medley Men's 'A' team: (Grant Griffith, Josh Tavarez, Ashton Burge, AJ Page). 200 Free Women's 'A' team: (Laughlin, Halsey, Lewis, Weissgarber). 200 Free Men's 'A' team:(Tavarez, Nathan Kennedy, Burge, Griffith) 100 Butterfly, 200 Free: Griffith 100 Free: Laughlin, Tavarez 100 Back: Laughlin Second Place times were turned in by: Weissgarber (200 Free, 500 Free) Lewis (100 Free), and Tavarez (100 Breast). Third place finishes included: Burge(200 Free), Kennedy(50 Free), Amber Gregory(50 Free), Katy Halsey(100 Breast) and Taylor Mooney(100 Back). All swimmers dropped times considerably from their seed times for a very successful first meet. SV swims again at Palo Alto Natatorium on Friday, Nov. 10th.
