Ben Woodchick-          JR.       MIF/P

Zac Russell-                 JR.       C

Notes on the Team:

In 2006 we set a school record with 29 wins.  We lost a great class of Seniors (Clay Fuller-California Angels, Kendal Volz-Baylor, Reagan Moczygemba-Navarro, Drew Hamilton-Incarnate Word), but return seven letterman including five starters.  We will have a small senior class, but the experience of Morrow (9-1), Rosfeld (409 Avg., All-State Honorable Mention), and Asberry (32 RBI’s) will help.  The kids coming up off the JV had a great season with a 22-2 record, but will have to grow up fast considering our first game of the year will be a district game.

REGIONAL SEMIFINALISTS

The 2002 Ranger Baseball team had a tremendous season and made school history by going undefeated in district play and making it all the way to the Regional Semi-Finals.  The Rangers were stopped one run short of continuing their playoff run by the Calallen Wildcats in a 21 inning marathon series at Wolf Stadium.  The Rangers took the first game of the series 3-0 in Calallen and returned to San Antonio for the completion of the best of 3 series.  The Rangers lost game two in 11 innings with a score of 13-11.  SV was stopped short of their goal to return to the state tournament when they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker in 10 innings.  This Ranger team proved time and again throughout the season that team unity, commitment and heart is what it takes to display championship efforts.

A special note of thanks to Coach Matt Gustafson for 5 years of dedication toward the Ranger Baseball program.  Although Coach Gus will be retiring as SV head coach, he will always be a part of Ranger Baseball and will be remembered for building a baseball program at Smithson Valley that is recognized throughout the state!
